Baana Kaathadi is about two young lovers in North Chennai who are passionate kite lover whose entire life revolves around the kites and competitions concerning to it. It is certainly for the first time in Tamil cinema history that a film has been shot at real crowd in the Gujarat’s Kite Festival.

The film is produced by Senthil Thyagarajan and T Arjun of ‘Sathyajyothi Films’ and the music for the film have been given by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Trade was lacklustre in earlier sessions.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 17,981.06 points, closed at 17,841.74 points (provisional), 150.26 points or 0.83 percent down from its previous close at 17,992 points.

At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty ended at 5,356.4 points, down 0.97 percent from its previous close at 5,408.9 points.

Broader markets indices closed with modest gains. The BSE midcap index closed 0.32 percent up and the BSE smallcap index ended 0.13 percent higher.

Music label Venus has acquired the Hindi audio rights of the eagerly awaited Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai starrer, “Endhiran” from Sun Pictures, a division of Sun TV Network.

“It can’t get bigger than this! Rajinikanth, Aishwarya Rai, A.R. Rahman and Shankar (director) will create history with the blockbuster film ‘Endhiran’,” Champak Jain of Venus Records & Tapes said in a statement.

“Touted as one of the most expensive films with a heavy dose of special effects, its melodious music and sensational songs will take fans by storm. Venus is synonymous with good music and this prestigious project is a feather in our cap,” he added.

The audio launch of the trilingual science fiction film that is expected to release in the last week of August, will take place Saturday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Oscar winning music maestro A.R. Rahman will give a special performance on the momentous occasion and Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan is expected to attend the function.

Directed by S. Shankar, “Endhiran” will release in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.

But some what quite disappointing news is that Simbu who is said to dance for a song in ‘Endhiran’ on the audio launch stage is not going to perform it now as he had no time to rehearse for the song. But any way, tomorrow there will be a mega glittering audio event launch that will be eye feasting to watch it.

Director Milan Luthria left no stone unturned to make his “Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai” appear like the 1978 “Don”. While Ajay Devgn’s character in the film has been designed around Big B’s persona, the film’s mood and background score are also in tune with the espionage thriller.

Moreover, “One Upon…” took its own sweet time to get to the censors as the director was busy trying to get the texture and quality of the background music from “Don”.

“It wasn’t easy at all. I had a new composer, Sandeep Shirodkar, to do the background score. I wanted the entire smoky atmosphere, the mood of intrigue suspense, tension and romance of the 1970s to come out of the music. My reference point was the Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Don’,” Luthria says.

The effort to get the right music took much longer than expected. And the film went for censoring much later than Luthria had imagined.

“But the effort was worth it,” says Luthria proudly.

An even prouder moment was when Luthria’s mentor Mahesh Bhatt saw the film Wednesday evening.

Says Luthria: “Mahesh is my boss. When I saw him whistling and cheering my film, I felt I had done my duty.”

With Haji Mastan’s adopted son and three biological daughters trying to prevent the release of the film, producer Ekta Kapoor and director Milan Luthria have quickly followed the court directive and inserted a disclaimer saying the film is a fictionalised biopic of Haji Mastan’s life.

However, the disclaimer is not the ordinary kinds that says – “All the characters of the film are fictional and any resemblance to any person living or dead is coincidental.”

“Our disclaimer says that it has nothing to do with Haji Mastan. We also have to put out a press statement saying that none of us from the film has ever made any statement claiming our film had anything to do with Haji Mastan,” Luthria explains.

But the question is, would the disclaimer pacify Haji Mastan’s family, especially when so many of the incidents in the plot would directly remind them of their family matters?

Mesram Bapurao, leader of Telangana Adivasi Upa Kulala Ikya Vedika claimed that the term ‘Komaram’ is connected to tribal renowned person Komaram Bheem, who was killed when fighting with the Nizam forces.He declared “Using the word ‘Komaram’ in a film is like offending family of Adivasis and their culture.”

Earlier, Adivasis family has objected ‘Sammaka Sarakka’ film starring Roja and Ramya Krishna directed by Dasari Narayana Rao as they believe them as wood goddesses and showcasing that in the movie is like ruining their customs.

Keep yourself busy to stay happy. People who have something to do, even if pointless, are happier than those who sit idle, say researchers.

The study was conducted by Christopher K. Hsee and Adelle X. Yang of the University of Chicago and Liangyan Wang of the Shanghai Jiaotong University.

“The general phenomenon I’m interested in is why people are so busy doing what they are doing in modern society,” says Hsee.

Sure, there are reasons, like making a living, earning money, accruing fame, helping others, and so on, reported the reports the journal Psychological Science.

But, Hsee says, “I think there’s something deeper: We have excessive energy and we want to avoid idleness.”

For the study, volunteers completed a survey, then had to wait 15 minutes before the next survey would be ready.

They could drop off the completed survey at a nearby location and wait out the remaining time or drop it off at a location, where walking back and forth would keep them busy for the 15 minutes.

Either way, they would receive a candy when they handed in their survey. Volunteers who chose to stay busy by going to the faraway locations were found to be happier than those who chose to be idle.

A rare shrimp that may be the most ancient animal species on earth is alive and well in Britain, scientists have discovered.

Two colonies of the tadpole shrimp, triops cancriformis, were found at Caerlaverock on the Solway Coast of Dumfriesshire in Britain, researchers from the University of Glasgow announced.

Experts think there could be more “hidden” population of the crustacean – an endangered species – elsewhere, says a Telegraph report.

The tadpole shrimp may have the oldest pedigree of any living animal, scientists believe.

Fossil finds show that the shrimp has stayed virtually unchanged since the first days of the dinosaurs. And after 200 million years, the tadpole shrimp is still showing the extraordinary ability to survive.

The shrimps are adapted to living in temporary water pools and when the water dries up, the adults die but leave behind eggs that can remain dormant for years until wet conditions return.

Mud, thought to contain tadpole shrimp eggs, was sampled from pools around Caerlaverock, dried, re-wetted and placed in small aquaria. The scientists were startled to find a large shrimp swimming in one of the tanks within a couple of weeks.

Research student Elaine Benzies said: “I did not expect it and was just going in to check on the heat and lights. It was great to see everyone in the lab, including the cook from the canteen, gathering round and peering into the tank to look at this ancient survivor.”

The tadpole shrimp was long thought to be confined to a single pond in the New Forest, Hampshire.

Then in 2004 Dr Larry Griffin of the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) found another colony in a pool at Caerlaverock.

Dr Griffin said: “At that time it seemed that the Caerlaverock colony was a vulnerable, historic outlier on the northern fringe of its past and present population.”
